Oh Have I Been Lazy
Yawn…
Oh how I needed this. I haven’t really done anything but go get milk. It has been good to just sito on my ass and not try to decide what route I will take tomorrow, or find another place to stay, or learn hot the taps in the shower work. On the other hand, I haven’t had to think about cooking supper in over four months, and have had to lean a whole kitchen, as well as exercise a long unused part of my cranium.
I am glad there is a weight set here. I have grown a little tire of looking at my skinny ass in the mirror. Driving just doesn’t keep you in shape like building scaffolding does. I ache like a bugger right now.
The water problems continue to curse me wherever I go.
For the last few days here, the water has been coming on and off. This place has 600 gallons in reserve, but even that wasn’t enough to keep all the guest in water.
It ended up that we had to take water from the pool to fill up the holding tanks up the hill. This was an exercise in ingenuity and patience. This is the short version.
The infrastructure here just cannot support all the new development in the area, so when they decide to do something about it, they just cut and hack. No prior warning, no water truck at the ready, and there is little you can do about it but deal with it as best you can. A common theme throughout Central America.
Maybe my experiences in Xeka helped to prepare me for this. Yeah… that’s it.
Anyways, I am about half-way through the process of importing my car into this country. For some reason, customs down here think that my car is worth about $2500 US. They sent me a few pics from a website down here where folks are trying to flog similar cars for far over value. I responded with a few pics of my car, dents and all, and a few web pages of what it is really worth. Now it is just a waiting game. I have the time.
I will hang around here for another day, and then I will head out towards Bocas del Toro and Isla Colon. I haven’t even seen any of the surrounding country side here yet. Although you get one helluva good view from here alone, I am looking forward to the drove over the mountains ON GOOD ROADS, and down towards the other coast and the Caribbean Sea.
I have enjoyed visiting with the guests that stay here. They are generally a well-top-do bunch with many interesting stories and good ideas. Lots can be learned from folks like these and in a few days I will be meeting with a man who has made millions investing, and knows how to… well… do stuff.
