Closing In, Closing Up

Today was spent doing the odd things one needs to do before leaving.  My last (almost) visit to the dentist for a cleaning.  Got travellers health insurance. Cooled my heels in the doc’s office and left after waiting an hour.  I was going to see about getting a Malaria shot, and one for Yellow fever, but his office staff keep over-booking him so he is ALWAYS running late.  No doubt his is by his orders as he gets paid by the patient.  It reeks of greed and unprofesionalism, so I guess I look for a new doctor when I return.  It should also be quite easy to get these shots in Mexico, and probably cheaper, too.  At least I got out on the bike.

By the way, if you are in Edmonton and need to travel, DON’T get your coverage a CAA.  What a rip-off.  My friends are snow-birds, ahve done their homework , and sent me to Travel Guardian Insurance, travelguardian.com located on the south-side.  They gave me ethe exact same coverage as CAA for less than half the price.  That’s $300 less!  Now you know why CAA has a nice shiny building.

Spent the rest of the day putting together a “just in case” tool set.  Ratchet set,  one of every screwdriver, pliers, crescent wrench, some screws to plug a leak in a tire, a replacement belt for everything spinning, gaskets, fuses, rad hose, and a big bag of bulbs.  Head light and signals are “optional equipment” down there, but I like to have everything working.

Yesterday, I installed a 400 W inverter under the drivers’ seat.  this should be more than enough to charge my various batteries.  It well even run one of those little hotel coffee makers.  I can just imagine cruising along as I listen to it perk my morning cup-a-joe.  What a laugh.

My last job gave air miles as an attendance reward for going to work every day (can you believe that?), so I just cashed some of them in for a little pile of Best Wester travel cards which came via Purolator yesterday.  Should be enough there to keep me in a room when I don’t want to be elsewhere.

It may not come through in the text, but I am stoked!  Jazzed!  Ripe! Chompin’ at the bit.  Cant’ wait to get the $$^&^%% out of here and get moving.  Two, maybe three more days…

I was looking at ziptrek.com today… looks like fun.

I’ll let you know.
