Where To Now?

Lillooet

Nice enough morning.  Had to try out my cheapo breakfast.  Made coffee and an egg sandwitch all with out getting ripped off.

Went through Kamloops and onto Lillooet.  From Cache Creek to Lillooet was 85 km of winding highway.  That part of the drive was awesome.  Man, I wish I was on the bike.  There are no pictures because there was no taking your eyes off the road. Read more “Lillooet” →

Calgary and On

Finally on the road.  Straight to Calgary.  On the way there it was nice of my odometer to finally roll over.  New car!!  This will make it easy to keep track of how many miles I have travelled, should I ever think that important.

Of course you always forget something, and this time it was my toiletries bag.  Had a pal send it down by Greyhound and picket it up the next day.  Thanks man.  Good to get the sweaters off my teeth.  So I’ve been in Calgary for a few days. I notice Calgary always has cheaper gas than Edmonton even though that is where all the refineries. Read more “Calgary and On” →

Hello

That’s right.  Time to leave.  There is frost on my shingles this morning.  Starting to wonder if I have packed enough warm clothes to get me out of this country.  It’s nice to note that the price of gas has fallen considerably down in the States.  That will make things a little easier.

This site is setup so my last entry appears first.  Scroll down to see the rest.

By the way, I now know Malarie is pills and not a shot.  Also, the pills make you sicker than Malaria.  So I will have a little bottle on hand if I need.  Yellow fever shots are only required when leaving certain parts of Panama (Darien Province) to go to other countries.

Still sipping my morning coffee, so not much else to say toady.

Calgary, Kananaskis, Vancouver, Whistler, Seattle,…

Plodding Along

It feels like my feet are stuck in mud.  A friend told me a story about a guy travelling down in southern Mexico that was caught by the banditos, killed, and they took his van.  Just what I needed to hear.  Y’know, it’s not that I am unaware of these things, bit it still took a couple of days to shake it off.

Got myself a laptop a few days ago.  With it I will be able to stay in touch along the way as I pass through hot spots.  I also have all my music files off my desktop on it so when I get sick of my tunes I can burn so more CD’s.  I can plug it into the inverter I installed last week to keep it charged.  With it I got a 256MB cruzer drive so I can transfer files (suck as this blog) off my laptop an cut and past my posts and download web pages so I can read them at my leisure.  Cuts down on time in the internet cafes.  Some of them are a right rip-off.

Closing In, Closing Up

Today was spent doing the odd things one needs to do before leaving.  My last (almost) visit to the dentist for a cleaning.  Got travellers health insurance. Cooled my heels in the doc’s office and left after waiting an hour.  I was going to see about getting a Malaria shot, and one for Yellow fever, but his office staff keep over-booking him so he is ALWAYS running late.  No doubt his is by his orders as he gets paid by the patient.  It reeks of greed and unprofesionalism, so I guess I look for a new doctor when I return.  It should also be quite easy to get these shots in Mexico, and probably cheaper, too.  At least I got out on the bike.

By the way, if you are in Edmonton and need to travel, DON’T get your coverage a CAA.  What a rip-off.  My friends are snow-birds, ahve done their homework , and sent me to Travel Guardian Insurance, travelguardian.com located on the south-side.  They gave me ethe exact same coverage as CAA for less than half the price.  That’s $300 less!  Now you know why CAA has a nice shiny building.
