Where To Now?

Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Ok, so I finally crossed the border and am now in Costly Rica.  I don’t have my laptop right now so this is just a note to say Hi Wave

I like the scenery here.  It’s all good, except for the roads.  The is absolutely NO excuse for the condition of these roads with all the money rolling into here for tourism.

But it is nice.  And bloody hot.

Will try to post later.  I will be here for another day starying t the local Best Western (for Free) but I am starting to get a little lobster like.  It’s better than pale-boy.

Ciao.

A Few More Days

I am now at the beach.  Yay!

I drove from Esteli, into the Reserva Natural Tisey-Estranzuela with a hitch-hiker, took some pics, returned to the highway.  The only thing notable about the “reserva” was the miles of uni-stone road leading up to it.   I then went past San Isidro, Sebaco, Tipitapa by Lago de Managua, through Managua the capital (only having to ask for directions once and had an escort to the road out by a guy who drove taxi and also refused payment because he had been lost so many times in the states and was returning the favour), onto El Crosero which has absolutely incredible views (which also is the turn I needed and isn’t even on my map, thanks again to the the taxi-driver), and to the coast on 35 km of terrible road towards Pochomil. Mazatlan!

Ok.  Now we’re cooking with gas.

Yesterday I spent the night in a cheap hotel in Calliacan.  Aside from the utter bitch at the front desk, I had a great time.  Hotels along the way are all a little different, and they don’t all meet the standards we are used to.  This was the picture down a little door inside the closet in my room.  You can access rooms above and below from this little door.  Yikes! Wet Feet

Today wan’t nearly as painful as yesterday.  Pretty much just a straight drive down to highway towards Guyamas.  Not very long either, having learned my lesson about getting where I want to be in the daylight.  I am off the main route a bit at a little place called Leos Inn, in Colina Miramar, Sonora.  Not what you would call fancy, but beachfront.  i have the penthouse suite and the view is typical of what I imagine Mazatlan to be like.  There are a flock of pelicans that call this bay their home and you can watch them dive bomb their prey 50 feet from the beach as well as wayyy out there.  It’s pretty cool. Massive Understatement

I’m glad I started when I did and not a moment later.  Running around town in Nogales was a bit of a pain.  Sanbourns, bank, food mart, hotel, food mart, bank, food mart.  The food mart was where the ‘cambio’ was, but hty only took cash.   The exchange rate is 10.6 to on yankee buk.  A far cry from the 13 or so when I was in Cancun two years ago.  Pretty soon they will be at 10 and we will be at par and the new economic entity can emerge.

Anyways, I finally got rolling around 1:00 and then spent the next few hours felling completely lost, just hoping someone would take care of me.  I hadn’t a clue what door to go in first, and you’d think those guys at the border would speak a little English… I think they were having more fun watching me squirm.  That’s how you learn, though.
