Going Back

Yeah, ok, so this time around I just didn’t feel like writing every day about my trip just to try and convince you guys to come down here. It obviously hasn’t worked. Ahhh, what faithful employees your boss has.

I am headed back home now, in a roundabout way. A few days in Toronto before heading back to my home. I learned a lot this trip, saw a bunch, and plan on returning just as soon as it is too cold up in Canada.

Finally, an update.

Here are the teasers.

Well, since I have come down the hill, I have spent most of my time at a place called Pension Costa Rica, a hostel with about 45 rooms in it. It is nothing fancy, in fact, it is quite basic. A room with a shower, toilet, and two single beds goes for $6.90/night. It is funny that after all my panning of Costly Rica, I should end up at a hostel of the same name, yet have it be one of the cheaper places in town.

Giddyup!

I’ve had enough and I want OUT!!!

Cooling my heels in Boquete has begun to wear thin on me. It has been over a month that I have been down in Panama and still not a single toe in the ocean. This has just got to change, so tomorrow I am headed into David to get a room somewhere and start experiencing Panama again. Momentum is a nice place, but it is a bad habit. Once you are there it is Hotel California, and you don’t want to leave.

I have a cell phone now, a needed accessory down here.

Further updates tomorrow, because tonight, as usual, there is absolutely nothing going on…

Ya, so maybe I write something, uh?

Ok, so I have been back in Panama for 2 days now. Did a little shopping today, but not much else. I was planning to go out to Coronado and visit a friend of mine there, but the more I think about moving the luggage I am carrying, the less I want to do that, so the call has been made. Tomorrow morning at 8:15 “Panama time” I board that damn bus again to David. 10 hours of churning along the highways. Ahh, well it isn’t really that bad, and all will be well again once I have the freedom of my wheels under me. Dragging around this little box of car parts has proven to be a bit of a pain. I should have put more thought into what I wanted to do while I was here. I know there are things that I will remember later when I am miles away.

I had resigned myself to staying in the room tonight, getting a good rest, and catching the bus in the morning, but that didn’t last long. Stir crazy called me so I had to go and visit. I just had to get out of the hotel, so down to the local park I went. As I was sitting there, smoking my first Panamanian cigar, along came a racket, and not your usual racket either. This was some sort of parade. Read more “Ya, so maybe I write something, uh?” →

Going Home

Two guys out on the Penninula…

So I am sitting in Salt Lake City Airport on a 5 hour lay-over. This place is cold, my jean jacket is in my checked baggage, and I can just imaging what Edmonton will be like. At least I can get my jacket out of my bag once I get there.

Yesterday, thinking I would just be taking a bus into the city sometime that day, not looking forward to it too much because of all the extra baggage I am now hauling around, I found that other people had begun making plans on my behalf. Now, admittedly, I didn’t have any sort of formulation of a plan in the first place, so maybe that was part of the magic.

It turns out that Pete and his wife Nora (a couple that own a place down the beach where we would go to play dominoes now and then) were returning to the city the very time I was. The question was asked on my behalf, the offer made, and off I went with Paco (one of the co-owners) allong for the trip. He hadn’t been in the city for a while either, so it was just an excuse to get away for a bit. Read more “Going Home” →
