Casco Antiguo

We were going to head out to Parque National de Soberania today, but by the time I had gone over our escape route close enough to be fairly sure I’d get it right on the first try, it was noon, which was just too late to get going.  It’s not as though the two of us were rushing or anything.  Quite the opposite.

We woke up slowly, had coffee in the room, I did this mornings’ post, we had breakfast at the nice little restaurant downstairs, and ambled from one thing to another as they day went on.  It just didn’t turn out the way I thought… or as some would say, it turned out exactly right.

Instead, we decided to go wander Casco Antiguo, which is actually walking distance from here, although a rather long walk. As you can see, this time I’m a little more set for the task as I scope it out… over there…. some how… Read more “Casco Antiguo” →

Cerro Giatal

Catching up now because we’re in Panama City with an actual internet connection, and thankful that the rest of our travels have conditioned us to accept less than Canadian standards to rest our heads, we’ve holed up at Hotel Acapulco for a few days while we bandy about here and there.  Five bar signal in the room, A/C, hot water, gated parking, relatively quiet, and walking distance to the subway (who knew Panama had a subway?), restaurants, shopping, etc…
I’m inscribing a new map of the city over top of the old, dusty one I had stored upstairs, and with that, we managed to drive out to the Amador Causeway for dinner last night, had dinner at a restaurant overlooking the bay, and made it back alive.

Panama Canal

I suppose we should have left a little earlier in the morning for the city than we did.  To be honest, the main purpose of heading out that morning was to find refills for our mini stove.  The butane cans for it are variably everywhere and nowhere to be found.  All over David I was coming across them in 3 paks, and now nothing.  The only place I can find them is in the Do It Center.

All this is to say that until I located replacements, nothing else was going to happen.

As luck would have it, we found two more in another Do It Center, grabbed them greedily … “Start the car!!!!!”  We were off to Panama.

You begin to get used to sights like these along the way.  For all you engineers out there, this defines a “live load”.  How they stay upright through the twists and turns is beyond me, but they do. Read more “Panama Canal” →

Ok ok …

It takes a few hours to make a post and get it looking right.  There’s lots on deck, but I don’t feel like doing it tonight.  I will, however, give a little brief.

Lemme see.  We’ve now been to Panama City to see the canal, and today we went back to El Valle to walk that trail we didn’t do before because it was too wet.  Hmmmmm, we found Cass a doctor, and she has recovered from …. travelers issues, and tomorrow we’ll be heading back into Panama City for a few days to tick off a few other things on the “to do” list.

Soon, I’ll start with a post about our Panama Canal adventure, and when I get to it, I’ll do one about Ciero Giatal, which was awesome, but not before we get to Panama City again, and settle in.

Soon enough.  Ciao

Chillin’

The last few days have been a little off when compared to the rest of this blog.  Yesterday we moved rooms and ate some pizza in Coronado.  Today, neither of us got out of bed until 8:30, we went to a meeting in Coronado, went out for lunch with the gang, and came back here to hang out.

It’s too damn hot to go to the beach even though there was a weekend crowd there.  Not gonna dewit.
