Boca Chica
Well, I sure got a lot of sun. My shoulders are now pink and I just had a nice little nap.
I spent the day out at a brand new resort in the Boca Chica area called Seagull Cove Lodge. I know, the name is sort of crappy, but the “seagulls” don’t look like what we are used to. They are dark, quiet birds that fly around in formation.
The property sits on a hill and has several air conditioned cabins linked to a long stairway down to its own private beach. This place was amazing.
Ken knows the two owners from his experience with his own resort, and both of them were happy to see us. We had a nice meal, although a little small, and took a swim in the ocean.
This place isn’t quite finished yet, but when they are they are thinking they will be charging around $125 a night to stay.
I have a bunch of pictures I will add to this post later, but you would really have to see them to realize that this place will get what they are asking.
Lots of small islands within a 20 minute boat ride. The region is known for its sport fishing, and not just little ones. Big ass marlins and everything that goes along with them. The shore line they are on is just adjacent to a large marine park, so the view and habitat will remain relatively unchanged.
The road toward this place was what I expected. Through a few small towns with relatively good pavement, then the turnoff with 5 km of absolute crap, and then it got better. Much better, with graders and compactors working the road throughout most of the rest of the drive.
They do that sort of thing down here to keep the riff raff out, y’see. If you don’t know where you are going and are just poking around, you will turn around. Unless you are in the know, that is.
I can’t wait to post the pics, but the owner of the camera (I forgot mine) has yet to wake up. Awwww….
Later.
