Full Moon
Finally some sun. Just a few pics. Still figuring out how to adjust for bright pics on my camera. The instruction manual for it should have been a hard-cover it’s that big.
Met a few folks while I was stopped checking out the view. Two other folk doing the exact same as me, just a little different. Fred is the old timer, and the other guy is from all over but lives in Australia. Hey, if you are reading this, the card you gave me is what I wrote the URL for this site and fie it back by mistake, so comment on here to get a hold of me. Fred was a “geologist” of sorts and just about lost his brakes coming down a helluva slope. They were smoking when he stopped.
That’s what carrying 7200 lbs of rocks will get you. Said he had a 500 lb boulder of obsidian on board, a rock which usually shatters as it cools. So to have a piece that size is quite rare. He cuts them and polishes them. I asked him what he was going to do wit it when he was done. He just said “Look at it.” The characters you meet on the road are half the fun. The other guy just pulled the plug from work and fucked off. Tired of 150 e-mails a day. I don’t blame him.. Had the money, time and the will to do it. the only thing you really need it the last one. Anyways, it was a weird meeting of the wanderers on a highway pullout with an awesome view.
Managed to drive through a tree today. I just had to do it. Apparently, the real big Sequoias are a bit further down the road.
Got my first speeding ticket today. Damn. I should’ve taken a pic of him walking up to me in the rear-view mirror, but didn’t want to make a move for the camera in my pocket. I’ll call the ticket a souvenir, and not worry about it again. I was almost laughing as he walked up to the window. The dreaded California State Patrol… it didn’t seem right without the helicopters twirling about overhead. I’m pretty sure I had a smirk on my face as I handed over my “who gives a damn” Canadian drivers license.
Tonight I hit the sack in Garberville, CA. A little dump called the Johnson’s Motel. 40 buks. Bed and shower. All I need.
Spent the morning poking around the little town of Redway. I love this place. it is full of beatniks, stoners, surfer, and Gerry Garcia look-a-likes. Even the radio stations is like, ooooohhh soooo laid back. There was some hit song by one of the locals about the wonders of her porn mag collection.
Washed all the crap of twoo weeks of rain off the car, and on down the road.
Into the great Sequoias. Lots of these sign around the just crack me up.
This pic didn’t tun our so well, but is still kid of cool
Two days of fun in a row. I must be in California. Going inland on the 101 things start to get a little arid, but it’s fine to stand outside with a t-shirt on. I even had to roll down the window today and got the after noon sun on my arm. It was hot and that was only a taste of what is in store. Tomorrow, I will try to make the other side of San Francisco and hope like hell to avoid a wrong turn into Oakland. Someone told me I should avoid that place for some reason.
